Crucial Music May News

Posted 17th May 2012

360 has continued to make waves over the past month. A really positive and successful trip to the UK to commence writing for his next album also saw his first ever UK show in London; a SOLD OUT one at that. Sixty’s prolific Tweeting throughout the trip revealed some exciting collaborations are in the works for album #3.

Upon his return Sixty took off on the regional Groovin’ the Moo festival tour and has been SMASHING them so far. Bendigo, Townsville, Maitland and Canberra all yielded bouncing, absolutely jam packed tents and wild audience responses. The audience’s cheers in Maitland reached 119dB (that’s louder than the PA folks!). Bunbury this weekend followed by Darwin then right out on the essentially SOLD OUT 17 date national FLYING TOUR, which kicks off with triple j’s One Night Stand in Dalby at the start of June.

Demand for tickets on The Flying Tour has seen almost every show sell out lightening fast. The Come Together festival sold out in a matter of days and a second 18+ Sydney show at the Metro also sold out quickly. Now, less than a month out from the first date of 360’s June ‘FLYING TOUR’ unprecedented demand for tickets has forced the UPGRADE of the WOLLONGONG WAVES venue. The Wollongong show, which will take place on Friday June 9, will now be upgraded to the largest venue within the Waves Nightclub complex at the Towradgi Beach Hotel. The extra tickets go on sale Thu May 24, all details at 360music.com.au.

The current single to be unleashed from the multi-platinum Falling & Flying album is CHILD (check the video here). The tune has hit GOLD status and scored day adds with a swag of the Nova stations. Hopefully there’s more where that came from. Also exciting is that Sixty’s YouTube channel hit a massive 9 million views recently and Facebook ‘likes’ are surging towards 360,000.

CHILDREN COLLIDE have also had a hectic couple of weeks. Their third album MONUMENT is now out and winding its way around the hearts of listeners country-wide, to celebrate they’ve also announced a HUGE national tour in support of it. THE MONUMENT TOUR kicks off in August and will be hitting all capital cities and many regional centres right into September. Tickets go on sale next Thursday May 24, and as always all the info is at childrencollide.com.

The band announced with the tour this week that singer/guitarist Johnny Mackay has now departed for the wilds of New York for several months to spend some time in the city. He’ll return for any CC shows and of course in time for the lengthy Monument Tour. With single tour in support of SWORD TO A GUNFIGHT being drummer Ryan Caesar’s final jaunt with the band, it is now the time to look ahead. Drumming duties on ‘THE MONUMENT TOUR’ will be undertaken by good mate, Melbourne local and former Dardanelles drummer Mitch McGregor.

Other excellent things that went down in Children Collide land last week include the release of the fan-photo generated video for single CHERRIES (watch it here), the band’s bizarrely located but nevertheless rockin’ Channel [V] Guerilla Gig (photos here) and the long awaited Children Collide RAGE programming (playlist is here).

HUNTING GROUNDS have been busy busy boys of late. Between playing and announcing a few sneaky one-off club shows, they’re also furiously preparing their debut album for release in July. It’s all in the bag and in the not too distant future there’ll be a brand new tune and another high quality video to feast your senses with.

The follow up single to 2011’s triple j favourite IN COLOUR is coming your way at the end of May, and we here at Crucial HQ are absolutely thrilled with the quality of album delivered by the band and producer Paul ‘Woody’ Annison. Recorded in Melbourne at Red Door Sounds, we’re very excited to get it out there. Great things ahead for these guys; the first triple j Unearthed High winners to release an album.

GYROSCOPE announced their first hometown headline show for 2012 – THE BENEFIT SHOW FOR DANA, just a few weeks ago. Now, they have unfortunately had to postpone it. Gyroscope guitarist ZORAN TRIVIC was struck by a vehicle when riding his motorcycle in Perth last week and sustained two badly broken legs. Although he is expected to make a full and complete recovery, the next three to four months will see Trivic undergoing several operations and undertaking full-time rehabilitation.

The show has been postponed to SATURDAY SEPTEMBER 22, and will remain at THE ROSEMOUNT HOTEL. Excellent supports THE SCOTCH OF ST.JAMES and BOSTON & CHEVY have agreed to reschedule also. Tickets purchased for the benefit will be valid for the new date and any punters who wish to seek a refund can do so by contacting Oztix: oztix.com.au / 1300 762 545.

Perth local, 26 year old DANA VULIN fell victim to a horrendous crime in her hometown of Rivervale, Perth two months ago. An intruder broke into her home, confronting her and dousing her body in methylated spirits, and setting her alight. This premeditated attack left Dana with burns to 60% of her body.  THE BENEFIT SHOW FOR DANA will raise funds to aid Dana with the expenses of medical treatment, legal fees and rehabilitation. We hope to catch all of you Perth folks there to help out with a good cause.

THE LIVING END were embroiled in a little controversy this week concerning Australia’s newest talent TV show – The Voice. A tweet from @thelivingendaus praised contestant Matt for his rendition of White Noise on Monday night’s show. Some media were obviously confused by manager Rae Harvey’s conflicting view that Matt’s performance was rubbish, with articles like this popping up. TLE tweeted again on Tuesday saying: “A lot of chat about @TheVoiceAU guess we’d rather build someone up than publicly rip them down everyone is entitled to their own opinion…… for the record, Andy thought Matt butchered White Noise last night on @TheVoiceAU too. TLE HQ” All in all, a pretty amusing little episode…

In other news, the band revealed last month that they have something cooking for announcement soon, and that the announcement will be one of very epic proportions. The Living End don’t do things by halves so we’re excited to see what these mysterious revelations are.

TLE also announced a new show yesterday, all the way up in Port Hedland, WA. The trio will hit the Pilbara along with Hilltop Hoods and others for the Northwest Festival in August, check out the details here and at thelivingend.com.
